Sharing is caring!

It’s cold, dark, rainy or snowy. It is the perfect time for some winter reading. Put away your phone, take a break from social media, grab a blanket, a hot cuppa and curl up with a great book.

Each year, I try to participate in some sort of reading challenge. This year, the challenge I joined has a list of categories and the goal is to read a book in each of the categories. Here is what I have planned for the next few weeks:

nine satisfying books for winter reading

Winter Reading List

A Trilogy or SeriesThe Lunar Chronicles (This series contains more than three books. I intend to read 1-3 for this challenge.)

I teach middle school and high school students. This YA series has been a favorite of my students for a while and has been on my watch list. This is the perfect time for me to catch up and connect with my students in regards to these books.

A Book with MagicFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

We saw the movie a few weeks ago and I loved it but also felt like it went so fast that I missed things. This book is the actual screenplay and, while a little difficult to follow, has really helped me understand this story and it’s connections to the famed Harry Potter series.

A Book About a ProfessionThe Teacher Wars: A History of America’s Most Embattled Profession

As a teacher, I have faced a lot of issues over the years with changing laws and regulations in education. Sometimes I feel as if I am fighting a losing battle so I am curious about this author’s point of view on my profession.

A Book of Historical FictionEpitaph: A Novel of the O.K. Corral

I first fell in love with the story of the O.K. Corral (and Val Kilmer) when I saw Tombstone back in high school. I’m always a sucker for stories of the Wild Wild West.

A Book with a One-Word TitleEdgewater

Scandal and romance, shame and redemption? Sounds juicy and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one.

A Book Set in a Different CountrySecrets of a Charmed Life

Books about England and books about Hitler and World War II regularly top my list. This book has been on the back burner for a while and it looks exciting.

A Book at the Bottom of your To-Read ListThings I Want My Daughters To Know

This book has been on my Goodreads To-Read List since 2011. Maybe this year I will finally get to cross it off.

A Book About a Historical EventThe Age of Daredevils

This book is about the history of barrel jumpers at Niagara Falls. This is not the type of book I would normally read but it is wildly fantastic and so interesting.

A Book Based on A True StoryThe Magnolia Story

Chip and Joanna are just as funny in this book as they are on their TV show Fixer Upper. The book is a fast and fun read and a cute behind the scenes look at how they ended up with a hit TV show.
