Ever since I was a little girl there has been something magical about reading in the winter. From memories of my mom reading aloud to us, to my sister and I playing librarian with our stuffed animals – books were a big part of our childhood. Life can be hectic in the warmer months so as things slow down in the winter you may want to check out these great adventure books to read with your kids.

It never failed. On the day after Thanksgiving, my dad would climb the steps to our attic and drag down all of the Christmas decorations. The first thing we usually did was place the little electric candles in all of the windows. Later that evening when I climbed into bed I would turn off all the lights in my room except for one of the little plastic candles with the fake wax drips. I would curl up in my bean bag chair to read by its light pretending that I lived in “olden times.”
Laura Ingalls Wilder was my favorite and I could get lost for hours in the Little House in the Big Woods or The Long Winter. I was also a fan of the Baby-Sitters Club series, Nancy Drew and often threw in an R.L. Stein Fear Street book just to mix things up.
