My inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) is probably one of the best investments I ever made. If you’ve got a leaky SUP valve, it’s not ruined. You can fix it in less than a minute.
I purchased my California Board Company SUP a little over a year ago and I can’t even begin to count the number of times I have used it in the last year. It’s a lot.
I love my inflatable SUP because it is so easy and convenient to use. It easily fits in the back of my car and can be inflated in about 5 minutes with an electric pump.
Inflatable SUPs require some simple maintenance from time to time. One common issue is a leaky valve.
There really is nothing scarier than being in the middle of a lake and realizing that there is a slow leak of air coming from the valve area of your paddle board. The first time it happened to me, I assumed my board was kaput. As we were paddling back to shore I imagined all of the air being suddenly expelled from my board as I sank into the watery depths of the lake, never to be seen again. Okay, I am a little over-dramatic.
As it turns out, my board was just fine and needed a tune-up – not the landfill. The valves in SUPs are actually made to be replaced, but you probably don’t even need to replace it. You probably just need to tighten it. The valve can get twisted a little as you attach your pump hose and over time can become loose. Your board probably came with everything you need to fix it.
