1.You can substitute a “round” egg for the folded egg (and vice versa) at no extra charge.
The round egg is cracked fresh and sometimes I prefer the flavor and texture of it to the folded egg.
2. McDonald’s serves five different types of eggs.
Round Egg: They use a USDA Grade A egg and crack it into an ‘egg ring’ to get that iconic round shape for the Egg McMuffin.
Scrambled Eggs: The scrambled eggs are made with liquid eggs that are cooked fresh on the grill with margarine.
Egg Whites: They use 100% egg whites in the Egg White Delight McMuffin, which are cooked on the grill with margarine.
Folded Eggs: The folded eggs, like the ones on a Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit, are made with liquid eggs that are pre-cooked and folded before being flash frozen by our suppliers. Once in their kitchens, the eggs are prepared on the grill with margarine.
Sausage Burrito Eggs: McDonald’s suppliers pre-cook liquid eggs with ingredients that include sausage, tomatoes, green chilies, onions and seasonings before flash freezing them to help maintain their taste.
3. McDonald’s is transitioning to cage-free eggs by 2025.
McDonald’s currently sources 13 million cage-free eggs each year. By 2025, they have made a commitment to transition to entirely cage-free eggs in all of their US and Canadian restaurants.
They use roughly 2 billion eggs per year in these stores so that is no small feat!
4. McDonald’s eggs are fresh. Really fresh!

When I worked at McDonald’s the folded eggs weren’t frozen. We used the liquid eggs and a special piece on the grill. Then they were hand folded. I think frozen eggs would be gross.
