hiking with kids is a lot of fun but they need to be protected from ticks, mosquitos and other bugs while on the trail. There are so many insect repellents available so which insect repellent is best for me and my kids?

Hiking with Kids

I love going on hikes with my little guy. He is so full of wonder and loves to explore. Collecting leaves, pinecones and sticks are his joy. He’s usually pretty good at making himself happy but there are a few things I like to do to make sure he not only has fun but is safe too.

Carry a walking stick.

Bring water for you and your child.

Hydration is so important – even on a short walk. My little guy has his own water bottle that he loves to drink out of.

Carry a map and compass.

Even if you intend to follow the marked trail you should always have a compass and a map. If your little one takes off running and you lose the trail it is so easy to get turned around and confused.

Bring a camera.

You want to document the hike as well as any scenic views or interesting things you see along the way and a small digital camera is a great way to do that.

Protect yourself from bugs.

When we are in the woods my favorite product is OFF!® DEEP WOODS® Dry repellent by OFF!® Insect Repellents. This formula isn’t oily or greasy and it lasts up to 8 hours against mosquitoes. It protects us from mosquitoes, ticks, biting flies, gnats and chiggers – all things we encounter in the woods. Make sure when applying insect repellent to kids you always spray it onto your own hands first and then rub it onto their skin. Don’t forget to spray your clothes too. Note: Personal repellents containing DEET should not be used with rayon, spandex, acetate or other synthetic fabrics. Always read and follow label instructions.

The OFF!® DEEP WOODS® Dry repellent is great for hiking but you and your family will likely participate in a variety of activites over the years. Choosing the right bug spray for the activity can be difficult and OFF!® Insect Repellants makes so many great products.
