Heading outdoors in the winter can be a lot of fun and there is so much to be learned. When the leaves have fallen from the trees there are so many things to see that aren’t as easily visible in the summer. A Winter Scavenger Hunt is a fun way to explore nature in the winter.

How to Use this Winter Scavenger Hunt
Download the FREE Winter Scavenger Hunt here and print out enough copies for everyone who wants to participate. Grab some pencils and head outside. Simply check off each item as you spot them in nature.
Take Pictures
We bought our three-year-old son this camera for Christmas. It has great storage so he can take all the pictures that he wants to and we can print out his best ones. Grab a camera (or even your phone) to take pictures of each of the items on the checklist as you find them.
Have a Contest
If you are enjoying this scavenger hunt with several children you may want to have them compete against each other or in small groups to see who can find the most items first. You can offer a prize if you like or the winners can enjoy bragging rights.
Extended Your Learning
This scavenger hunt should serve as a catalyst for extended learning and is not meant to be a stand-alone activity.
- Read books about how animals survive in the winter.
- Learn about birdwatching and create a winter bird habitat in your backyard.
- Learn about trees and plants that keep their leaves in the winter.
- Read about winter weather or create a snowstorm in a jar.
