Who said camp cooking had to be boring? Sure hot dogs and hamburgers are easy and tasty, but a grill is capable of so much more. If you’re looking to venture out a bit this PB&J Chicken Wing recipe may be just the thing to try. Grilled chicken wings don’t get quite as crunchy as their fried or baked counterparts but they are just as yummy and this sweet and spicy marinade will have you licking your fingers and reaching for seconds (or thirds).

I’m excited to welcome my friend Rob Duno to share this amazing looking chicken wing recipe. Rob is a US Army Disabled Veteran who currently works as a Bridge Electrician for the railroad. During his Army days, Rob began experimenting with the grill and it grew into a fun (and delicious) hobby that he continues to enjoy today. He cooks up a lot of wonderful treats for his wife and four children (and a dog who gets a bone now and then) which you can see on his Instagram page @SaucedBossBBQ.
Rob used a Pit Boss Grill to smoke/grill his wings but you can make these on a regular grill. If you don’t have a Pit Boss Grill and still want a bit of smoke flavor, I recommend using your charcoal grill. You can learn how to turn your charcoal grill into a smoker here.
What Are Peanut Butter and Jelly Chicken Wings?
These peanut butter and jelly chicken wings go way beyond a grade-school lunchtime favorite. The peanut butter and jelly combined with the Thai chili sauce in this recipe give these wings a sweet flavor with a slightly spicy kick. The whole roasted peanuts which are chopped and sprinkled over the finished wings give this recipe an exciting twist and a satisfying crunch. I guarantee that these wings will become a favorite and regularly added into your meal-plan rotation. You’ll definitely want to make these on your next camping trip.
How to Prep Thai Chicken Wings for Camp Cooking
- Place 4 pounds of trimmed chicken wings into a large ziptop bag.
- Combine all of the marinade ingredients and pour them into the bag with the chicken wings.
- Seal the bag and toss the entire thing into your Mammoth Cooler before heading to the campground. (Save 20% off your next Mammoth Cooler purchase by using the code SeekAdventures20Off at checkout on MammothCooler.com.)
- Don’t forget to pack the peanuts.
Do I Have to Use Chicken Wings?
You sure don’t! Although, I would recommend a skin-on, bone-in piece of chicken like thighs or legs.
What Grilling Tools Do I Need?
The Pit Boss Grills are great if you plan to smoke these. If you are headed to a campground the charcoal grill or fire pit at your site will work well too. If you have a Coleman RoadTrip X-Cursion like we do, you can just swap out one of your grill panels for the cast iron griddle to cook the peanuts. You will also want a set of long-handled tongs.

Ingredients
4 lbs chicken wings, trimmed and patted dry
1 tsp black peppercorns, ground
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp honey
1/4 cup peanut butter
2 tsp Pit Boss Sweet Rib Rub
1/2 red onion, minced
1/2 cup strawberry preserves
1 tbsp Thai chili sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
10 oz peanuts, whole
Instructions
Marinade
In a mixing bowl, whisk together strawberry preserves, peanut butter, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, honey, Thai chili sauce, minced onion, Sweet Rib Rub, and black pepper.
Cooking Instructions
Place chicken wings in a large zip-top bag, large bowl or container. Pour marinade mixture over chicken, seal or cover, and keep cold for about 2 hours. Fire up whatever you are cooking on and preheat to 400 degrees F or medium to high heat. Place wings directly on the grate, over indirect heat, and cook for approximately 30 minutes or until cooked through rotating wings every 5 minutes. Meanwhile, place whole peanuts on griddle or baking sheet, turning occasionally with a metal spatula for 5 to 7 minutes, to lightly roast. Remove wings from grill and allow to rest for 5 minutes. While wings are resting, shell the peanuts, and transfer to a resealable plastic bag. Use whatever is available (tent pole mallet, can, rock, etc.) to crush the peanuts, then scatter peanuts on top of the chicken wings.
Serve warm!
